Media Identity Theft

This is one aspect of scams that is particularly insidious - the use of pictures (and sometimes entire profiles) of handsome men, pretty women, and even teens that the scammer gangs use to masquerade themselves to prospective victims.

The scammer gangs steal these from many sources on the internet - Facebook, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, etc., including outright hijacking or copying of entire profiles from Facebook, etc.

This is, in essence, media identity theft. The harm is done not only to the scam victims, because they are given the idea that these beautiful people are the ones at the other end of the line, but especially to the people whose identity has been stolen. They find themselves pursued, not only by the scam victims (who sometimes don't realize that their scammer is someone else entirely), but also by friends, family, and partners of the scam victim, and misinformed government investigators, in a barrage of emails, phone calls, and even visits by police agencies, even though they are completely innocent.

These people are severely affected, causing massive disruption in their lives and their families. They are victims of the scammers.
